The Ultimate Halo Mass in a ΛCDM Universe
نویسندگان
چکیده
In the far future of an accelerating ΛCDM cosmology, the cosmic web of largescale structure consists of a set of increasingly isolated halos in dynamical equilibrium. We examine the approach of collisionless dark matter to hydrostatic equilibrium using a large N-body simulation evolved to scale factor a = 100, well beyond the vacuum– matter equality epoch, aeq = 0.75, and 53h −1 Gyr into the future for a concordance model universe (Ωm = 0.3,ΩΛ = 0.7). The radial phase-space structure of halos — characterized at a < ∼ aeq by a pair of zero-velocity surfaces that bracket a dynamically active accretion region — simplifies at a > ∼ 10aeq when these surfaces merge to create a single zero-velocity surface, clearly defining the halo outer boundary, rhalo, and its enclosed mass, Mhalo. This boundary approaches a fixed physical size encompassing a mean interior density ∼5 times the critical density, similar to the turnaround value in a classical Einstein-deSitter model. We relate Mhalo to other scales currently used to define halo mass (M200, Mvir, M180b) and find that M200 is approximately half of the total asymptotic cluster mass, while M180b follows the evolution of the inner zero velocity surface for a < ∼ 2 but becomes much larger than the total bound mass for a > ∼ 3. The radial density profile of all bound halo material is well fit by a truncated Hernquist profile. An NFW profile provides a somewhat better fit interior to r200 but is much too shallow in the range r200 < r < rhalo.

First Structure Formation: A Simulation of Small Scale Structure at High Redshift
We describe the results of a simulation of collisionless cold dark matter in a ΛCDM universe to examine the properties of objects collapsing at high redshift (z = 10). We analyze the halos that form at these early times in this simulation and find that the results are similar to those of simulations of large scale structure formation at low redshift. In particular, we consider halo properties s...
متن کاملThe Largest Virialized Dark Halo in the Universe
Using semi-analytic approach, we present an estimate of the properties of the largest virialized dark halos in the present universe for three different scenarios of structure formation: SCDM, ΛCDM and OCDM models. The resulting virial mass and temperature increase from the lowest values of 1.6 × 10hM⊙ and 9.8 keV in OCDM, the mid-range values of 9.0 × 10hM⊙ and 31 keV in ΛCDM, to the highest va...
متن کاملDark Halo and Disk Galaxy Scaling Laws
I highlight recent progress in our understanding of the origin of disk galaxy scaling laws in a hierarchically clustering universe. Numerical simulations of galaxy formation in Cold Dark Matter (CDM) dominated universes indicate that the slope and scatter of the I-band Tully-Fisher (TF) relation are well reproduced in this model, although not, as proposed in recent work, because of the cosmolog...
متن کاملHalo properties in models with dynamical Dark Energy
We study properties of dark matter halos in a variety of models which include Dark Energy (DE). We consider both DE due to a scalar field self–interacting through Ratra–Peebles or SUGRA potentials, and DE with constant negative w = p/ρ > −1. We find that at redshift zero the nonlinear power spectrum of the dark matter, and the mass function of halos, practically do not depend on DE state equati...
متن کاملThe Clustering of Galaxy Groups: Dependence on Mass and Other Properties
We investigate the clustering of galaxy groups and clusters in the SDSS using the Berlind et al. (2006) group sample, which is designed to identify galaxy systems that each occupy a single dark matter halo. We estimate group masses from their abundances, and measure their relative large-scale bias as a function of mass. Our measurements are in agreement with the theoretical halo bias function, ...
